Co-Parenting

The core of masculinity does not derive
from being male, nor friendliness
from those who console.

 Your old grandmother says,
“Maybe you shouldn’t go to school.
You look a little pale.”

Run when you hear that.
A father’s stern slaps are better.

Your bodily soul wants comforting.
The severe father wants spiritual clarity.

He scolds but eventually
leads you into the open.

Pray for a tough instructor
to hear and act and stay within you.

We have been busy accumulating solace.
Make us afraid of how we were.

OMGPS

I was sharing with a friend in Spain how much more comfortable with and in the skin of my own journey I am, when a dear friend posted this John O’Donohue quote as their Facebook status:

“Your soul knows the geography of your destiny. Your soul alone has the map of your future. Therefore, you can trust this indirect, oblique side of yourself. If you do, it will take you where you need to go, but more importantly, it will teach you a kindness of rhythm in your journey.”

O. M. G. :-)

Celebrating our flow and championing you as you venture, courageously, into what you want and what you do not yet know.

You inspire me!

Isabel Allende on Passion

It’s been a minute since my last post. When I said to my journal, “Let Fall be a season for reflection and renewal, after a summer of action and adventure” I was, apparently, quite serious.

While I’ve been looking at what I’ve built, planning what I will soon (and not-so-soon) construct and recovering energy I spent last quarter, I’ve also been living major transitions in my personal life: new income streams; new home; and shifts in my most personal relationships. Living, for serious.

As I gear up for 2011, I nourish myself with healthy food, ample rest, improved fitness regimen, choice conversations and media that enlivens, enlightens, informs and inspires me. Here is something I watched today, Isabel Allende at TED, discussing Passion.

Much Love,

Daniel

The Guest House – Rumi

We’ve each danced a few beats since my last post, and I hope these words find you well.

Today, I share (what I judge to be) a beautiful metaphor for aliveness by Rumi.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Keep Walking

Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.

Don’t try to see through the distances.

That’s not for human beings. Move within,

but don’t move the way fear makes you move.
